Hi

I'm again considering my case options. I've decided to stay with my Protec trombone mute bag as an accessory bag, so am looking for a case to hold just my trumpet and short model Bb cornet (I play both in my community light orchestra and sometimes in other settings).

Unlike my Bach 184ML, which has the same valve block as my Bach 37 trumpet, my Yamaha Xeno cornet has a valve block which is a fair bit taller, and it is my Yamaha Xeno which I'd like to carry.

I really like my Yamaha double trumpet case.

i.e.

https://www.yamahamusiclondon.com/YTR-8335-Mk-II-Custom-Xeno-Bb-Trumpet-In-Various-Editions/pidBYTR833502-SUPER

(see case pics.)

Unfortunately however, my cornet is too tall to fit in the other slot.

Basically, I'm looking for something along these lines, with back pack straps, an accessory pocket, and which will hold just my trumpet, cornet and two mouthpieces.

I realise that the Protec Mike Vax case (PB301VAX) and iPac triple are possibilities, but does anyone know whether a Yamaha short model cornet will fit in the iPac double, to save having to carry such a large case?

Additionally, do any other suggestions come to mind?

All the best

Lou

Get the protect Vax case, Louise.

I have one, and use it for my piccolo, cornet, Bb and 4 valve C trumpets. Have put natural trumpets, Eb... you name it, it's been in there. It is my normal take to gig case. Just use the two foam books to keep the horns in the back area still - this is where your cornet goes.

No need to spend more, plus it has wheels and handle.

cheers

Andy

Looks like the Protec Vax is smaller than the IPAC double. Just a bit larger than the Yamaha double.

I use a Protec triple when I want to carry my tightly-wrapped flügel with me. I am reasonably sure it will fit your cornet as well!

not cheaper but some can be found used for about 3-400 bucks is the Torpedo Coyote. I have the snip and snap lids (for flugelhorn). With some creativity have safely carried a Bb, C, and 9636 yamaha Eb/D trumpet.

Hi dstdenis

I've just checked this, and you are right. The Protex Vax is smaller than the IPAC double.

I'll have to check the Protec Vax case out in more detail.

Many Thanks

Take care

Lou

I don't know what the inside of your Yamaha case looks like, but have you tried putting your cornet into the slot upside down? For some reason, a taller cornet will fit that way in a lot of cases when they won't fit the normal way.

Hi Dale

Thank you very much, but I've tried this thanks, and it still doesn't fit. Even if it did, I don't think that I would be happy to have my cornet resting on one or more of its valves anyhow.

I've decided to shelve the idea of a case for a trumpet and cornet. The reason being that unless I bought something like a quad, I'd still have to carry an accessory bag anyhow for my music stand, music folder, instruments stands and full set of mutes.

I figured that since I need either just a trumpet or just a cornet, roughly an equal amount of times that I need both, that I might as well stay as I am. My cornet case weighs next to nothing anyhow, being a small semi rigid one with no mute compartment, and I can carry my back pack style Yamaha double trumpet case on my back.

I have a very small light trumpet case like my cornet case, and the now discontinued Protec extreme single trumpet back pack, for when I want a smaller/lighter trumpet case, but my Yamaha one isn't very big, and I like to carry a spare trumpet anyhow when I don't have my cornet with me, just in case (I carry a spare cornet to brass band gigs/rehearsals also, but leave it in the boot), so it makes sense to keep to my Yamaha double.

Therefore I've decided to stay as I am.

Thanks very much everyone for your kind suggestions.

Best wishes

Lou
