Congratulations to Dr. Luis Araya, the new Assistant Professor of Trumpet at the University of Central Florida! He will begin there in the fall.

Luis is from Costa Rica. He received his B. M. in Performance at the National Institute of Music in Costa Rica in 2002, M. M. in Performance at Loyola University in 2004, and a D. M. A. from Arizona State University 2011. He was Principal Trumpet of the Orquesta Sinfonica Venezuela in 1999, Second Trumpet of the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica from 1997 to 2012, and has played with the Dallas Brass since 2012.

As a professor, Luis taught at the National Institute of Music in Costa Rica from 2005 to 2012, and the University of Arkansas-Ft. Smith from 2014-2016. Many remember that he was the First Prize winner of the ITG-Ellsworth Smith Solo Competition in 2004, and performed a full recital during the ITG Conference in Bangkok, Thailand in 2005.

I know that randolphTrumpet (Randy Lee, Prof. @ UF) is good pals with Dr. Araya. I'll bet that they will have fun time together down in the Orange State!
