Based on versatility and overall functionality, which brand of trumpet stand works the best for its price point?

K&M 5-leg, as long as it fits your bell.

The old Hamilton KB500 is still great if you need it to sit up higher, but it doesn't store in the bell.

Don't forget the "Sleevette" made for both those brands - they work well.

Last but not least -
The Spyder 5-leg stand should work OK for pea-shooter bells.

Depends on its need. I use the K&M for normal gigs (fits in the bell) and the Hamilton "Classic" at home because it's adjustable and sits higher.

I prefer the K&M 3 leg version.. it's ligher and 3 legs don't wabble - if the floor is not perfectly flat me 5 leggers wabble (they don't tip over but I notice the movement sometimes on stages where people are moving or bouncing and it worries me). I do make a point of not leaving them in the trumpet for very long, I find they tend to hold moisture in and stuff grows faster.

Nomad and On-Stage have another similar design that works well but I have not used one other than at a display. I wonder about their durability.

The Hercules Travellite in-Bell is also very nice, comes with a storage sock and in a pinch will support a Flugel.. a touch more expensive

I've had issues with the taller type stands, Hamilton and Hercules, tipping. If some clod walks by and bumps something; once they start tipping they are top heavy.. (I have a Herlules 3 pegger that I've shortened the pegs so the trumpets sit lower)

I like my K&M 5-legger and use it at home, but had a go at busking last night and it stayed home - horn was in my hand or in the protec pro-pac with the lid closed.

Most trumpet accidents occur at home. True statistic.

Not if you never take it out to practice.

I think it's a valid response, a Torpedo WILL act as a VERY safe horn stand.

I've been doing that too since I've been using a torpedo.

I use both 5 and 3 legged in-bell stands when I'm on stage but bag the horn at intermission or breaks when I'm not around.

One more vote for the Torpedo Bag.

After using the Torpedo Bag, I would never be happy with a conventional trumpet stand again. Yes, the Torpedo bag is a trumpet case. However, it also happens to be the most protective trumpet stand you can own.

Regards,
Grits

It stands up on end and holds a trumpet - torpedo bag!

I looked it up and wow that's a hell of a bag.

For stands it looks like the K&M 5-legger is in the lead.
