Thank you John, I did not realize that now Stomvi has an extended range of 4-valvers.

So now, in addition to dreaming about a 4-valve flugel, I'll start obsessing about a Stomvi 4-valve Bb cornet... All waiting at the far end of my personal brassophiliac rainbow *Sighs!*

BTW, I did not see a price list for the 4-valve series.

Regards, Guido

So, what, and for whom is this instrument intended?

I sketched thru the 16 minutes of video but could only find one brief moment when he used the fourth valve, presumably to get better intonation on a lower note, but it was nothing revolutionary.... There was no attempt to 'display' the presumed facility of the extra valve that I could see or hear.

I note than even the string player referred to the brass player as a "trumpet player" and that was probably a good title judging by the performance.

a couple of decades back Getzen made a four valve flugle horn and I managed to try one out but found it an uninspiring instrument compared with their 3 valve. Presumably I was not alone as 4 valve flugles are a bit thin on the ground now.

There are people here in the uk who 'might' be able to offer something new with a four valve cornet, although it's hard to see how. Stomvi is a quality maker, although it's products are not often seen here, presumably becasue of the Spanish origin. The making of four valve prototypes must have taken time and money but it's hard to see why.

.....Genuinely interested in this, and not trying to be negative!

Stomvi now has an entire family of 4-valvers.... Flugel, various cornets, and trumpets. Here is the product family home page:

https://stomvi.com/en/4-valve-edition

Has anyone found the pricing page for these 4-valvers?

Regards, Guido

The four-valve Eb/D Titan has been listed on the Stomvi USA page for a little bit - $5,095.00 list, $3,895.00 discounted with Bell Flex, a touch more for a copper bell.

Lots of interesting horns in this new line-up, though...not sure I've ever considered the need for a four-valve F cornet before, but I actually can imagine a lot of good uses for one!

That's definitely an album I need to get my hands on. Anyone know if they plan to market it in the US?

The 4-valve line is aimed at the soloist. Pacho uses a wide variety of the 4-valve line when he tours. He plays pieces that utilize the extended register of the instruments. This allows him to play music in cello or guitar registers. The examples shown in the new Duo CD promo video are short. The video is more about the process of making the CD than the actual playing. The real playing is on the CD. I have no doubt there will be full-length videos in the future. There are a host of outstanding videos of Pacho on You Tube, several highlight the 4-Valve instruments he is using. I would assume as it is a global market that the album will be available on the net somewhere.

Best, Jon

Hi John, this CD can be a powerful Marcom tool to enhance the mindshare of the Stomvi 4-valve product family in the professional and amateur brass community... I suggest that Stomvi USA should be one of the outlets for the CD and all associated high resolution downloadable variants. I for one would order it!

Meantime, is there a place on the net where I can see prices for all 4-valvers?

G.

Nice looking instruments, but its a shame that for al the development and hard work in making the horns, Stomvi can't do more than put up a generic comment in the 'more information' links.

Flowery waffle is sort of nice, but it tells one nothing about the horns, how the 4th valve effects the rest of the horn, what the sound concept the design is, etc.

Seems a bit like, 'We made one 4 valve instrument, let's make them ALL with 4 valves!'.

cheers

Andy
