I am considering having either a Bach Chicago or Philly bell put on my YTR-6445. Why? Why not, I am an amateur/hobbyist and like the idea of a "custom" horn. What I'm looking for are some thoughts from TH on which one to choose. Anything you have to add would be appreciated.
Thanks! |

I've had a Chicago for about 7 or 8 years. I initially bought it because it felt like it played more open than the Philly. But over the years I've felt like the lightweight bell on the Chicago was too easy to get crass on when playing loud. I sort of wish I would have gone with something else, more standard in weight so there was a bit more stability at loud dynamics... |

If what you have is the original 6445, they are already a pretty light horn (thinner gauge slides etc than the current Xeno). Makes sense that the Philly bell might be the better choice unless you want a really bright C trumpet. Sounds like a fun project. You may not end up with the horn of your dreams but you really can't go wrong with either bell on the Yamaha body, it's been done many times. |

Definitely the chicago bell! It is much more open and resonates better than the philly-in my opinion. |
