i have taken to a new routine for a breakthrough in my weak points of endurance and range. i do a short routine of chop intensive work 6 days per week consisting of ascending high range arpeggios, slur work, and etudes, all of which to challenge endurance and range. it's difficult work to the point of what can be handled, and then the sensitivity of deciding to stop and no more. the chops have been challenged but not wrecked.
it's a 20 minute spurt with short and appropriate rests. so far it is working out and i am building range and endurance. with another few months and becoming satisfied with progress the routine can be widened to something more mainstream. |

This sounds like a very interesting and effective technique.
I have used something similar with my students! It's good to see someone else using some of the same techniques. |

Not sure why you called your topic "the baseball bat" Chuck. I was relieved though when I opened the thread and read your post - prior to that I was afraid I was about to read a post about a new high-intensity version of the so-called "Pencil Exercise". |

I thought that like Mendez, you were hit in the mouth with a bat.
He had donated baseball equipment to a village in Mexico and an ethusiastic boy swung the bat and hit Mendez in the mouth.
Of course, Mendez recovered and played a few more years.

this all might explain why third world nations favor soccer. |

really, futbol. i bet the kid who smacked mendez in the chops never lived it down.
interesting that the NFL is starting to lose steam. makes you wonder whether we are at some crossroad with spectator sports. most of the rest of the world has been happy right along with soccer. my grandson in CA and his cohorts play rugby. the left coast tends to be ahead of the curve. |

When I was in Ireland they called it soccer as well. They have their own football that blows away American football and soccer in my opinion. It is also called soccer in Canada. _________________ Kurt Magnuson
