Yes I bought another cornet. Had the winning bid on a Bach CR 300 cornet on shopgoodwill. Was listed as Bundy CR 300 trumpet.Although bell showed Bach on it. Couldn't find serial number E 900.. Any ideas on age? _________________ Jupiter 520 M shepherds crook

I don't think Conn-Selmer-Bach really has any records or lists of serial numbers for instruments that aren't Strads. I've never seen or found any and I've looked. Anytime this comes up here on TH, no one has answers.
Frankly, it doesn't really matter. Age is interesting with instruments that have eras and timelines that matter - Bachs that are Mt. Vernon or New York or early in the Elkhart era (or made during the strike). Beyond that, who cares? If it plays well, it's a good horn. _________________ LA Benge 3X Bb Trumpet

Your right. It doesn't matter age of the cornet, just how well it plays.
Like the fact there is a 1st slide thumb hook. Probably don't need it but..
So they shipped out the cornet. Actually got a call from customer service, telling me about added benefits not listed. Oil, slide grease and music books etc. Very nice surprise. Not used to such great customer service.
So it all about the playing. _________________ Jupiter 520 M shepherds crook

|
|
Well the Bach CR 300 cornet arrived today. Did give it a bath and dryed if off. After greasing it and oil it, played the cornet. Got that tweety bird sound. Believe it is the valve guides. How do the valve guides line up? It it the smaller vertical valve guide or the fatter one?
Thanks all. _________________ Jupiter 520 M shepherds crook

So I am now able to play the cornet. Doesn't sound like tweety bird. Two of the valve guides were inserted wrong. Was able to figure it out.
Previous owed a Bach CR 300 , I didn't like it so I sold it. Wonder why I like the sound of this cornet? Same model, but different mouthpieces?
Now I need to replace the valve guides on my 1957 Conn Connquest trumpet. _________________ Jupiter 520 M shepherds crook

Mouthpiece choice can have a huge impact on the sound of a cornet.
Cheers,

Based on my recent experience, you can't replace the valve guides from new stock on that horn. You can have them fabricated. If you find a source, please let me know. My first valve on my Connquest cornet needs replating and if I do that, I'll also go in for the new guides if possible. Thanks. _________________ Richard

I bought one of these used some years ago for my son when he was starting school band. I really liked the blow and the intonation on it. A good horn for a low price. Before I got my trumpet replaced a couple of years ago and returned to playing trumpet on a semi-regular basis, I would use his and was pleased with its tone. Good buy. _________________ King Super 20 Trumpet; Sov 921 Cornet
