Hi,
Was listening to Donald Byrd today, love his sound. I know he had a horn or horns made by Dick Akright, but does anybody know his choice of Mouthpiece?

Thanks,
Dave

It just says "Akright mouthpieces" over at the player/horn combinations.

I'm kinda thinking that he may have used something by Al Cass back in the day. As in that era? Seems like half of the name jazz players did use Cass pieces. And my memory tells me that he once was on Al's promo literature.

Dont know if that helps. Contact Steve Cass for more info.

Thanks Lionel, I had talked to Mr. Akright awhile back and he told me he only made horns for Mr. Byrd, but contacting Steve Cass is a great idea.

it depends on what you were listening to as to which horn he was playing

he played an underslung besson (meha?) back when i was hanging with him in the early 80s

I was listening to Black Byrd and Royal Flush, but I was asking if anyone knew his choice in mouthpieces.
