Anyone know anything about this horn? I'm assuming it's a Chinese copy of a Strad. http://austincustombrass.mybigcommerce.com/acb-modified-brasspire-unicorn-1000s-c-trumpet-with-new-lead-pipe/

It was likely manufactured at a highly reputable factory in Taiwan used by Carol Brass and Trent Austin for his Manchester Custom line. I can vouch for the quality of the Manchester Brass because I own one and it is a honey.

Why not just call Trent at his shop and talk to him about his horns. I bought a horn from him several years ago, been to his shop getting work done on horns, and trying mouthpieces. He has always been cordial and informative. He is very knowledgeable and can help you with your decision.

That's a link to the Brasspire shop but not the ACB-modded version with our leadpipe, PVA, and other mods.

happy to answer any questions you might have via email or phone.

Best,

Per the informative link, and not to take away from Trent's leadpipe upgrade, but for a player prone to corrosion, or a busy student, I would think the stock red brass leadpipe might be preferable?

We can make pipes in gold and red brass but prefer the sound shape and articulation with a thicker gauge yellow pipe on this C trumpet.

Again if anyone has particular questions shoot us a note or better yet call the shop!

Best,

I can personally vouch for the quality of the 3 items of concern in this thread. First, Trent and the people in his staff are first rate in every facet of their business. Their prices are fair and Trent is extremely knowledgeable about most things trumpet. Second, I have purchased two Brasspire horns from ACB and both of them are great players. One is the 923LT. This trumpet screams but is capable of playing with a nice fat tone when required. The other is the lower cost flugelhorn which has a nice dark tone. Both have fantastic valves and the build quality is very good. I have even ordered a small part (that was stolen along with my briefcase) from Brasspire and they shipped very promptly. Third, I have a Manchester Brass pocket trumpet. It too is a very good trumpet. I owned a pocket trumpet by another mfr that wasn't near as good. I would and have played this little horn in an ensemble with great results. And fourth (I know, I started saying just three things) Trent is VERY approachable and will bend over backwards to communicate with his customers. Give him a call at the shop.
Regards,
Mario
