Roughly speaking, in the electric guitar world, there are two fairly distinct buckets - single coil strat/tele style and humbucker Les Paul style. Players quickly line up on one side or the other based upon their distinctive sounds that carry over from manufacturer to manufacturer. Of course there are always blends but the two groupings still form a dominant choice point.
Is there anything similar in the Bb trumpet world? Distinctive buckets that carry over from manufacturer to manufacturer? If yes, what are the major design characteristics that separate them?

Tight slotting (Bach) vs. loose slotting horns (Benge).
Bach versus Yamaha is a pretty big thing though it's a bit harder to characterize why.

Bachs are thought of as inconsistent, but having character. Yamahas are considered very consistent but sort of bland, in comparison.
Schilkes are the red-headed step child. You know, the one who grabs attention when they walk in the room, but few people seriously consider a long-term relationship... 
Benge. Ah, Benge! They represent the graceful partner that isn't looking to attract attention with anything but an inner beauty that captivates the heart of the discerning.

I don't think there are distinctive camps in the trumpet world similar to humbuckers vs. single-coils in the electric guitar world, because so many trumpeters learn to play on all-around-general-purpose instruments: ML bore, standard weight yellow brass bell, etc.
One can head off in different directions if you want: lightweight or heavyweight horns, medium or extra large bore, efficient or open blow, different bell sizes and materials, etc., but one isn't forced to choose a camp with such distinctively different sounds at the outset.

Oh, there are buckets alright:
Tongue arch versus not.
Small drill versus larger drill.
Small/shallow versus large/deep.
Monette versus everything else.
Wild Thing versus everything else.
Live-for-high-notes versus not-impressed.
Pedals versus not.
Buzzing versus not.
All of these groupings can result in heated debate and chairs being thrown that rival a gathering of Hatfield and McCoys.

I, for one, haven't seen any McCoys around. Looks like the Hatfields won.
