I rarely use the 1st slide saddle, except for the middle A in some circumstances, top line F on some horns, and for muted notes that incorporate the 1st valve. For the A above the staff, 3rd valve is better in tune and is more secure on a few of the horns I have. I also have various vintage trumpets and cornets without a 1st slide saddle and I don't really miss having it on them. Prefer a trigger on 1st valve slides...
Wouldn't want to be without a trigger or shunt/ring, I use it regularly. |
