My brother introduced me to a Lee Morgan record when I was in middle school.
The album was titled 'The Procrastinator." Great album. And then there was "Search for the New Land." One of my all time favorites! Really love his playing style. I think I'll go put it on now and have a listen!

Thanks for starting the post Bill

Boy, how much more soulful can you get than that? Just great. (I know someone who was playing with Lee the night he got shot. Tragic.)

I can't find the quote to give attribution, but apparently, when asked about his inspiration, Freddie Hubbard replied, "Lee Morgan's solo on "Moanin'"

I rented it on Amazon, and watched it three times. Wow, this was really nicely presented as a film. Man, Lee's jazz articulation was incredible. I have lots of his recordings already, but i'm going to make it my business to get all of them. I've been playing Dat Dere almost non stop since watching this film.
What a cool tune it is. If you have a chance to watch it, do so, you won't be sorry you rented it. At least i wasn't.

regards,

tom
