|
|
This may have already been asked at some point, but is anyone aware of the stop nut size of a B&S Challenger 3137, and where I might purchase one. Mine rolled off and away somewhere and I'd like to get another before my 3rd valve slide falls off and gets a dent. Since it's a German based horn I believe the tread size is measured using metric which means I can't substitute a Bach stop nut.
Thanks _________________ Alex Domeier |

I can confirm the thread pitch when I get to the shop tomorrow. We ordered replacements from B&S so e can supply you what you need. I'll post on Monday. _________________ James Becker

Even though the Challenger is a Bach Strad copy, B&S made sure that nothing is interchangeable between the two. |

You could take it to a local tech and see if they have any that fit--just ask. You may also be able to replace the stop rod with one that has Bach threads. You could also replace the Bach-style stop with a Yamaha-style stop screw. There are multiple options here. An elastic hair band would work in a pinch.
Another place to look is your local hardware store, one that stocks small parts like this.

Yes, I've swapped out a Bach rod on a B&S, but the portion that inserts into the post must be turned down to a smaller diameter to fit. _________________ James Becker

Another solution involves chasing a Bach nut with a metric tap, again I can tell you more once I have the measurements tomorrow. _________________ James Becker

Thanks to all for the responses. I'll borrow someones Bach nut and test it to see if it fits. If I have the measurements then I'll just go to the hardware store and by a few or so. That way if one falls off I can just replace it. _________________ Alex Domeier |

No actually. Bach nuts have a 5-40 pitch internal thread and will not fit the B&S metric threaded rod. Per my previous two posts, one would have to change the internal threads of the Bach nuts to metric thread pitch with the correct tap or adapt a Bach 5-40 stop rod to fit the B&S stop post. Either way requires some sort of alteration to make the Bach parts fit. I know this because we've done both successfully.
I hope this is helpful. _________________ James Becker

Here you go:
B&S stop rod and nut threads are M3 x .5
Rod diameter is 3mm = .118" vs Bach at 1/8" = .125"
We have genuine B&S stop nuts in silver plate available. The price is nearly twice that of Bach which is why customers will often have us chase the internal threads of a Bach nut. So the choice is yours.
So far we haven't found any hardware stores that stock knurled nuts in this specific size.
I hope this is helpful. _________________ James Becker

Thank you James. I'll try our local hardware store just in case to see if I can find a nut there and save myself a little money, but if I have no luck there I may go to you. Do I go to your website and look from the online store there to order a nut or is there a better route I should take. _________________ Alex Domeier |
