Hi everyone. So I've done some research on the Schagerl Apredato mouthpiece series and am contemplating purchasing one. Anyone here have any experience with these pieces? It's quite an interesting design concept.

I wouldn't expect many people to have any experiences with them, but if you have or will, please let me know. I'm sure James Morrison would recommend them.

I believe Bryan Davis is using them, or at least has, while he was using Schagerl horns. He has since switched to Yamaha and I am not sure whether this also includes the mouthpiece. Bryan is a monster player and a genuine nice guy. Just shoot him an email:

James Morrison uses one. He is on facebook and replies to questions positively. (in my experience)

I have one. It's fine, but like all other gear, not a miracle maker. It does seem to have a nice resonance to it, but I find the weight a bit bothersome and I like a more defined inner rim.
So, good mouthpiece, obviously works great for JM, but not so much for me.

I've used one extensively with a rotary trumpet. It adds a lot of mass to an already heavy instrument, giving it a really dark sound.

Ich have one, but the size doesn't fit me.
I can report, that there are a lot of options tho change the feel and sound.
You can remove the bell and have a lightwight mp. You can add the bell.
You can experment with srewing the bell just a bit on. You can fill it with water.... From bright to super dark is everything possible.
Mine is the "Torsten Benkenstein" model, wich is a copie of a Schilke 13a4.
I will sell it. For 175 USD I will send it over see. PM if interst.

I do, indeed, use a Schagerl Apredato as my main mouthpiece, and have done for the last 4 years or so. (For the record, I played a Yamaha a couple of years prior to getting my Schagerl trumpet which I've played exclusively since November 2012. I'll be updating my Trumpet Herald profile with that info - this is the first time in several years that I've logged in!)

In my case, they converted a copy of my existing mouthpiece (a Karl Hammond Custom) to the Apredato for me. I thought it would be an interesting, and cool looking, thing to try but never expected to use it day-to-day. I discovered that it feels easier from behind the horn and has improved richness and projection in front. The weight is only very slightly more than a regular mouthpiece - the converted piece had a standard weight blank. When empty, the Apredato is much lighter than a standard Bach mouthpiece. With the water in, it is a little heavier - but not quite as heavy as a Monette STC1, for example.

Thank you all for the info. I've decided to give it a try, so I'll be ordering one (a 3c) soon. I'll post a review once I've had it for a while. And who knows, maybe the safari will finally end.
