I was wondering if anyone here could give me some advices in how to approach piccolo or mini french horn (in Bb). As far as I know it is actually closer to trumpet than french horn and uses the same fingerings. What is the proper right hand position? Do you hold it the same way as regular horn? |

I hold mine with an open right hand spanning the bell with the thumb and tips of the fingers supporting the horn.
This takes some of the edge from the sound but does not significantly alter the pitch. I played it once with a horn ensemble and received very favorable comments.

Thanks Richard.
Do you mean the rotary post horn or the piccolo french horn? _________________ Vincent Bach Mt Vernon Mercedes

I tried holding it this way and it works great. If it's good enough for horn ensemble then I guess it's ok to hold it this way.
And yes I'm talking about piccolo french horn and not rotary post horn. |
