I noticed in reading the notations by Claude Gordon in my Arban's that he recommends the syllables Tee Kee as opposed to Tu Ku. He also notes that in Saint-Jacomb's method a flute tonguing method was used that involves the syllables Tee Kee Tee /Kee Tee Kee /Tee Kee Tee/ Kee Tee Kee etc. as opposed to Tee Tee Kee/ Tee Tee Kee in triple tonguing. This was footnote 24 on page 153 of the Carl Fischer edition. Does anyone use this particular type of flute tonguing? I tried it and it seems to me that that my articulation is more evenly spaced.

Been trying to learn triple tonguing. I know most methods recommend Tu Tu Ku or Te Te Ke as opposed to alternating syllables such as Te Ke Te Ke Te Ke. I was wondering if there were any advantages to either system. I had never noticed the footnote in Arbans until I purchased a new edition to replace my old copy that was coming apart.

Multiple tonuing definitely ain't one of my strengths. But, Tee-Kee keeps my tongue higher, making it easier to learn double-tonging and to play fast(er). Tu-Ku keeps my tongue down, and while slower, provides better tone (sound).

YMMV - Don

I don't think it matters what "syllables" you use, what ever you feel most comfortable with.
