Simple Green seems a little stronger than Dawn, but Dawn is better than a sharp stick in the eye.

Dear friends
Personally I use in my horns Simple Green Lime Scale Remover with excellet results. The problem is that is some difficult to find. A 32 oz botle with triger cost here almost 8 dollars. Dawn dish detergent is good to deep the intrument and give a brush in the bell. If you found the original simple green, you can use that to deep the instrument in a pail for an hour and next rinse it with water. I hope this help. _________________ God's Peace be with all you!!!!!!!!

Any detergent that is intended for skin contact is likely to have moisterisers and softeneners - typically lanolin and silicones. These will leave deposits on the horn, which can cause problems with sticking on the valves, especially if they are tight. Simple green does not leave these kinds of deposits. |

I wouldn't use CLR on a new horn. There should be no reason to and I think that you risk a chemical reaction along the lines of what trumpetmom reported elsewhere. Simple Green will totally degrease and Brass Saver brushes will make things sparkle inside.

Joy dishwashing liquid in a bathtub of warm water and a bath towel as protection from the tub. _________________ Jim Hatfield
