What ever happened to Jerry Weiss? He was one of the trumpet players, along with Randy Brecker, on Blood Sweat and Tears 1st album (Child is Father to the Man). By the 2nd album, the one that produced a lot of B,S & T's hits, he was gone, replaced by the great Lou Soloff. I never heard anything about Weiss after that. I never heard him perform live, but he sounded great on that 1st album. Anyone know what ever happened to him? Thanks.

I know he formed a rock band called Ambergris. And yes he did sound great on that BS&T album..I also know he lived in a pad on 53rd st and Broadway for awhile. Havent heard anything about him for a long time.Hes probably about 80 by now.
Oh just remember i have a friend that was on the Tommy Dorsey ghost band with him and that would be in the early 70s

A little bit tangent from the original question asked, but I just listened to a recording from the documentary "What the Hell Happened to Blood, Sweat & Tears?". Interesting stuff.

Jerry Weiss is a competent trumpet player from Long Island. I was a member of his band before he went pro. As far as I know, he didn't do much after the first BS&T. The other trumpet player from the original band was Randy Brecker, who became a major figure in the NY jazz scene. .

Flugler; I wouldnt exactly call him a "Competent player".Thats him playing lead on the first BS&T and he sounds fantastic to my ears..And Randy played his usual very tasty solos..Competent?

Ambergris starts "life" like that, Robert, but is used by perfume makers to prolong the scent-life. Maybe it's use as a band name is being associated with enduring fragrance.

Cabbage and beans are associated with enduring fragrance too.

Chuck Winfield went on to be a Professor at the University of Maine. He taught jazz. He was born in 1946 so, depending on his birthday he is either 77 or 78 years old.
