I do not curse. No need to do so.

To me ... if you raise your voice, or curse ... you have automatically lost the argument, or whatever point you are endeavoring to make.
I ignore people that curse ... or, I call them out on it, asking if there is some reason they find it necessary to do so.

Current "culture" seems to be Okay with it.
Why is this?

People seem to be oblivious to be making fools of themselves.
Is this the best they can do?

Curse words are another form of communication, with an emotional message that non-swear words cannot accurately convey. To dismiss a person's arguments out of hand because of their choice of expression, regardless of what that may be, is short-sighted and condescending imho. It's a common tactic used by politicians to invalidate their opponents without actually addressing their concerns, which can be quite humiliating at times (hence my reluctance against it).

You have to keep in mind that not everyone is equally capable of expressing themselves, but that doesn't make them lesser human beings. It's not the lack of cursing that makes a person enlightend, but how they treat others.

Look at hollywood and pop music today, practically everything is replete with vulgarities or crass and crude subject matter.

I think comedy is probably the worst culprit, because once upon a time, many comics used to be masters in being able to insinuate something without saying it. Today in order for mass appeal, one can watch any standup and they practically leave nothing to nuance or the audiences imagination.

I think it's a basic limitation of vocabulary, to put it bluntly, an inadequate or basic ability to express oneself. With that said, it's probably more powerful or meaningful to say something which isn't a vulgarity today, than actually doing so.

Social media is also a cesspit for this sort of stuff. Invariably the problem I have is that there may be some funny meme pages, but the normal modus operandi is that once they start to gain a following, then paid for posts start to appear, which invariably are of some slattern who advertises her services on an infamous website for that material.

I'm not one to be offended by any of this, I'm just sick of it. I think the film "Idiocracy" tends to fairly prescient about the direction that we're generally heading in.

There is even a somewhat sarcastic meme in response to the incessant barrage of gutter material: "Every day we stray further from God"...

I think the key to it is to know your audience and know your boundaries.
Of course, some have none.

The choices as I see them, in this case, are to ignore them or dissociate from them. Frankly, I don't know what else you can do.

Humorist (he really curses a lot) Ron White: "You can't fix stupid".

I have learned that stupid people do not know they are stupid.

Thankfully, there is the "Darwin Effect".

How about we NOT get into semantics, 'eh?

I too find cursing unnecessary and I personally find calling out others in a public forum to be unnecessary. But that is just my opinion.

Indeed.

I also don't think the use or disdain of curse words is a very good metric of intelligence.

Plenty of fools use curse words, often needlessly or with little regard. Some amount of fools also disdain the usage of curse words, which does not automatically make them wise.

I think that's part of the deal, but we don't get to choose the ending. Like everything else, that's bigger than us and rightfully so. I do hope that good health will continue to part of it.

Life is too short for bad choices! Be very particular!

Iā€™m more ready than last week. My wife who is 63 y/o had a stroke. That really made me reevaluate my life and health choices.

I don't need to curse. Sometimes I just want to, and if anybody asks, my vocabulary is excellent. But you will never hear or see me do it in public, or in a public forum. I deplore the casual use of profanity in public, or in private, for that matter.

I was in Salzburg and saw the Fu King Chinese Restaurant. I wonder how that fits into the conversation.
