I have a King Master cornet with sterling silver bell. I need a recommendation for a gig bag. Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated.

I used a Gard Single Cornet Gig Bag (3-MSK) for a while. It's a well-made bag, reasonably protective against minor bumps, with high-quality fabric and zippers.

Gard here, too. For a cornet, I just fill in the empty space with a washcloth.

Protec PB-312. While technically a hard case, it’s very light, very compact and surprisingly affordable. It can be used with back or shoulder straps.

Gard are very secure. Protec Ok, and less expensive.
I'll throw in Messina Covers - They custom build their cases, can provide a standard build or custom design something. Excellent protection and craftsmanship.

I have a Gard cornet gig bag (for my shepherd crook cornets), but my King Super 20 Master model cornet sticks 2 full inches past the zipper, and you can't close it. I put my King cornet in a new Pro Tec Explorer TRUMPET case, and it fits fine! Most of the cornet gig bags are too short to properly fit longer wrapped American style cornets.

Gard. Protec on a budget. Cronkhite if you can find one in a shop - ordering direct won’t end well.

Messina Covers.

Much higher quality than Gard, Protec, and others IMHO and I have them all.

Care to elucidate?
I had been considering a Cronkhite case.
What's up?

I carry my Bach 181 in a Fusion backpack-style case. Protective with pockets, room for music, a mute or two, mouthpieces and oil. I like it a lot.

I'm amazed that a Bach 181 fits in fushion cornet back-pack. I once bought one for the Smith Watkins K2 that I had at the time. It was too small, so had to send it back.

All the best

Lou

Non-functional customer service. No order confirmation, no shipping confirmation, no response to email inquiries. I gave it a few weeks and filed a complaint with PayPal for a refund. This was all a month or two ago for a supposedly in-stock standard black trumpet bag.

The situation was exactly the same well before the pandemic as well as during the pandemic and protests (company is in Minnesota).

There is a recent tuba forum (not tubenet) thread discussing a building acquisition and renovations, which took a while.

Great bags, really. Good luck getting one. They show up at Dillon once in a while, which is where I last purchased one successfully this past spring.

I returned a Gard bag because my Yamaha Neo didn't fit. Not sure what those are designed for. The protec "pro pac" case works great for either my cornet or for a picc.

I find this discussion quite interesting, if not surprising. I only have a Fusion triple bag that I use for everything. It takes my trumpet, flugel, music, mouthpieces, stuff … and I will still have both hands free to travel all the subways, buses, etc. on the way to my (amateur) gigs. The instruments I don’t need for a gig (i.e. the rest of the signature) will just happily stay at home while I am on the road. Sure, the bag is a little large but nicely protects everything and I don’t need to store loads of bags at home.

That's another bag I returned, for being not protective enough. I'm using a Stomvi quad case now, for either multi-horn legit gigs or trumpet/flugel jazz gigs.
I was commuting to school (Eastman) and needed to have my other horns along, in the car, just in case, so I used a variety of other cases, including the Gard Elite triple, the Pro-tec cornet case, and single-purpose cases for baroque trumpet and cornetti. If I'm going somewhere now where I only need one horn (an orchestra gig last week only needed a C trumpet) I'll use a Torpedo tube case. Of course I also have all the cases that came with my horns - it's quite a pile all added up.

I feel as if we are getting a lot of recommendations from folks who are not acquainted with the King Master series of cornets. My King Master is 16 3/4 inches long, from the bell rim to the back bell bow. That is a full inch longer than my Bach 181 (long wrap) cornet. I have a number of cornets (close to 20), and I can tell you the King Master cornet is the longest "standard wrap" (the Reynolds Contempora is about the same) of all. Yes, it should fit the propac line, but that is not exactly a gig bag.

Just trying to make sure we give Mr. Arnold the right info.

That’s why I mentioned Messina. They can make a custom bag for it easily.

If you don't want to have a custom bag made, a flugel gig bag might work. From looking at pictures of that cornet, it appears to have a pretty tall valve casing in addition to the longer-than-standard length. Most flugelhorns I've seen are about 17-18" long and a standard flugel gig bag would probably fit the King Master cornet pretty easily, with some room for accessories.
