Can I invite comments on the Getzen Capri 590-s model trumpet? I mean the one with the first slide trigger. Is £600 a good price for one in good condition? For that money are there better options (needs to be good condition)? Or even am i better buying a new horn from a good brand?

Thanks in advance - need to move quickly to get this so please get those comments rolling in to help me decide 👍

It's in the ballpark. Current Capris on eBay in the States run from $600 - $892. Your 600 pounds equates to $750 or so US.

If it's in good shape it might be worth it. Might also be worth bargaining a little.

Getzen is not a "good" brand ....?
Any way Capri Bb for me is the best modern horn for students and serious amateurs , my son plays one since 2015 and he serves him great and now i will give him a new eterna Bb to finish his music studues and he will keep the old Capri for the marching band gigs , i had pay for the used but in like new capri back in 2015 €550 so it seems a good deal to me.

Regards

The Getzen 590 is a well-made instrument from an excellent manufacturer. That price seems reasonable if the trumpet is actually in good working condition.

If you purchased a new Bach or Yamaha, which is what you might have meant by "a good brand," you probably couldn't find a professional-level model for less than £2,000. Anything other than a professional model probably wouldn't be a step up from the Getzen 590.

As for which is a better option for you, only you can answer that. The Getzen 590 would certainly be a fine instrument for a student at least into their high school years -- at which point a "serious" student would likely be ready for a pro model -- and would serve an adult playing in church or community groups equally well.

The nice thing about all Getzen models is that you can up grade the valve guides with Edwards precision guides and springs.

I have owed many makes, models of trumpets and cornets. Once I found Getzens didn't want to play any other brand . I like Getzens better than Bachs, Yamaha, Conn and many other brands
Have owed Getzen students, intermediate ,professional trumpets and various Getzen cornets.
The 590 is a excellent intermediate model. Personally liked it better than Bach or Yamaha models. You will enjoy playing it and made an excellent choice for an instrument. The customer service that Getzens provides is amazing.
When you are ready, look at buying a Getzen professional trumpet. I have owed two professional trumpets both Getzens. My personal choice was the Canadian brass trumpet over Renaissance (900 series).
Mouthpieces choices are another thread.
I am a comeback player, started back last month. Sold all my instruments three years ago. Decided to focus on cornets only. So I bought the cheapest cornets off Shopgoodwill.com and ebay.
Do regret not still owning a Getzen instrument[/quote]

This only applies to older model Getzens. Any Getzen built since 2018, student to professional, comes from the factory with the same precision machined guides, springs, and pads sold on the Edwards store.

Thanks Brett. I was wondering why anyone would need to "upgrade" anything relating to the valves on a Getzen. I have only played one Getzen, a cornet, and it was amazing. I still remember how it had this incredible resonance, or felt "alive" when playing it. Since I never need a cornet, that is one of the few cornets I ever played.

They worked fine on a 2013 Lawler Model T so I suspect they'd work fine on your Lawlers.

As long as they are Getzen valve sections, the guides, springs, and felts will work. The new machined guides are a huge improvement over the old, cast ones we used forever. Thinner, lighter, denser, smoother, etc....And it is amazing how much difference a new set of springs and felts can make to a used horn... depending on how used it is of course.
