I'm hoping someone on this forum may have some more information on one of my horns.
I have a Buffet Crampon b flat silver trumpet with serial 1004. From this low, 4 digit serial, I've seen online this could be made by Ernst Modl.
Anyone else have anything else on it?
It plays really well, and considering it could be 70+ years old, it looks fantastic. I've owned for likely 20 years.. play it very infrequently. I did have it cleaned polished up a couple years back. From my searching it may be one of the better preserved examples. Curious on insurance value and any knowledge folks may have on it!

Very cool horn! This is a Buffet Crampon Balanced model, I have two of them one is serial in the 200s and one in the 500s. One is in raw brass the other in lacquer. Silver plate is much less common on the used market from what I’ve seen. I especially love the art-deco pointed finger hook!
Here’s two good resources I’ve found for reference:
https://www.brasshistory.net/Buffet%20History.pdf
https://www.brasshistory.net/Buffet-Evette%20Brass%20List.pdf
As far as if Modl built it I have no idea, there are many variations in parts for these horns. Some with different valve block, some with a different finger hook style. He did build sachmos emo world he played in the pacific from what I read. (same horn but with higher quality appointments) _________________ Antediluvian Projekt - An Experiment In Trumpet & Progressive Metal

Appreciate the resources! I love this horn and it always gets a good conversation going. Hoping to get back into playing more consistently again and I'm using this 'journey' of research to motivate me! |

The recommended retail price in 1953 (according to an ad) was 275 USD, pretty much the recommended retail price for most top professional models at that time. Olds wanted 285 for an Olds Recording a year later, but all other Olds models were less. A Martin Committee Deluxe was 260. King and Reynolds models with sterling silver bells was of course pricier as were the Selmer Paris trumpets (about 330). |

I had one, about 25-years ago.
Just could not "bond" with it. Could not find my sound in it. _________________ Sub-Optimal Hillbilly Jazz |
