Hello everyone, I'm looking to buy my first Cornet, I came across these two models, they are in similar states of conservation, I would like to know which is better, I've been researching and it seems to me that the Conn is from a student line, and the Reynolds professional, but the Conn has a copper bell, I don't know if a student cornet would have a copper bell, for you which one would be a better purchase? I appreciate any help.

The Conn has the serial number 917274

The Reynolds has the serial number 217100

The Reynolds Medalist is also a student line horn:

Really, now the doubt has increased, which one is better?

In my opinion, the Conn is better.

Is the Director the late 50's to mid 60's with the tuning slide out front like a trumpet and the "cleanout" slide below the third valve? Is the bell diameter larger or smaller than 5 inches? Or the later Made inJapan more typical shape?

Is the Medalist from the Pre Roth, post Roth, RMC, Abilene TX, or Fullerton period?

There are lots of variants in either!

The conn director that I am considering purchasing is the same as this model that is for sale on reverb:

https://reverb.com/en-br/item/81517378-conn-17a-director-bb-cornet-1961-sn-931996-coprion-bell

Based on the serial number I believe the conn was manufactured between 1960-1961

Reynolds is like this for sale in reverb too:

https://reverb.com/item/40654652-reynolds-medalist-cornet-lacquer

I believe the Reynolds is from 1965-1970, made in Fullerton because it says made in USA.

The Director is priced a bit high, but looks really nice, and is quite mouthpiece sensitive with potential to be really rich in tone. The Reynolds definitely looks like the Olds Fullerton production, plays similarly to the Olds Special with brass bell, but a bit lighter tubing. Assuming good condition for either horn, they could give good service, but the Director will offer better tonal variety and core.
