Kevin Cobb (American Brass Quintet) and Brian McWhorter (Meridian Arts Ensemble) are hosting this educational retreat for musicians, specifically trumpet players, where the purpose is to offer a place to investigate our relationship to the trumpet and how that defines our role in larger contexts. We wish to provide an atmosphere that nurtures creativity by dissecting and expanding the preconceived notions of what it means to wear the label of "successful trumpet player." To do this, we hope to offer alternative ways of seeing ourselves within music and in life. In essence, a complete integral approach to becoming aware and mindful of ourselves with our music.
The daily program will include basic yoga, meditation, interesting classes and group discussions, as well as individual time for practicing and lessons. This integral emphasis also includes helping with cooking and doing chores. We will eat wholesome meals together and share in the overall atmosphere that will be one of support, kindness, and creativity.
We look forward to having you join us for a few days of inspiration as we get ready for the school year and our regular routine.
ITR is open to professionals, college students, teachers and amateurs seeking to improve their practice. Total cost for the retreat is $375. This includes tuition, room and board. ITR will be held in Leyden Mass - just a few hours from Boston and New York City.

This sounds great! One of the most intriguing ideas I've seen in a long time.
Other than Mr. Cobb and yourself, will there be any other guest speakers or teachers (someone like Sakyong Mipham)?
Not that it is expensive, but will scholarship or tuition assistance be available for students? Is there additional work that the students can do to help defray the cost? |

In this first year of ITR, we won't be having any guest teachers except for Lisa Snyder who will be our yoga teacher in the mornings.
We would love to offer financial aid but are simply unable to this year. We hope to be able to offer some in subsequent years.
best,
Brian |
