Has he recorded the Hiendmith sonata, the Kennan Sonata, or the Artunian concerto? If so what records are they on? _________________ Don't practice until you get it right, practice until you can't get it wrong.

I'm pretty sure he hasn't recorded those pieces, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, Maurice has recorded the Arutunian - it's on cd, Erato label, no. 2292-45775-2, recorded in about 1975 or so. By the way, can anyone tell me where I can find a comprehensive biography of Maurice, the king of trumpet? Thanks in anticipation.

I was shocked to read this too..
As a trumpet player, Andre is one of my "heros"...
My sister, who was at the concert told me about it.
Ah well... _________________ David Quinlan |

There's nothing wrong with the review, if it's accurate. |

Dales-
Nobody is saying the review is bad or the reviewer is bad, they are saying it is a bad review of Andre, a negative review, a review that didn't like the performance. |

Hey lindastaggard, where can I get that CD of Maurice Andre playing the Arutunian. It has been out of print for a long time, and I have been looking for a place to pick it up for years, and nobody I know has it. Is there some dark corner of the earth where I can still but that thing? |

Being.....BADBOY DON, I read and re-read this review and although it was very-very well written, even this old BBD got the feeling that the author got his ANDRE' THRONE AND PEDISTAL SHOT OUT FROM UNDER HIM!
Amazing what 69year on this earth can do to any human being...and Maurice Andre' let's face it...(NO MATTER HOW SHABBY HE LOOKS OR PERFORMS today)...WONDERFUL FRUITS AND GIFTS OF HIS RECORDINGS, THANKFULLY, WILL LIVE IN THE EARS, MINDS AND HEARTS of every trumpet player on this planet who has stood in AWE of Mr. Andre's HUGE AND GENIUS GIFT so selflessly given for such a very long time.
I am sure this performance and seeing what the ravages of time on a human body can do, WAS SHOCKING...well often... not a pretty sight
(I KNOW...I HAVE BEEN DYING SINCE 1939)...and although, certainly not in this life time, NOT EVEN ENOUGH TALENT TO WIPE DOWN ANDRE'S GOLDEN TRUMPETS..and I too, try to out-trick my limited gene' pool and trying to cheat old fatha'time-by attempting to take better care of this old temple...and its get more difficult by the day but although THAT IS A REALLY ANOTHER UGLY STORY IN IT SELF..
review at times to me....left me feeling very sad to see that such a gifted genius in music( IF THIS ARTICLE IS CORRECT?) that he too is reaching a point in his life....???????
CAN YOU EVEN BEGIN IMAGINE HOW THE ANDRE'S OR THE HUBBARD'S....or any other world famous ICON MUST FEEL...when he feels his craft is slipping away, BUT IT IS EQUALLY HEARTFELT...AND OFTEN EQUALLY CRUEL...to have his family, friends, colleagues and fans....LIE TO HIM,
by trying to constantly PROP UP his delicate ego and pride of this kind of preciously gifted genius of trumpet.
Natually, we know of the exceptions to the rules...Yes, we had the ICONs such as Art Farmer, Sweet Edision, Doc Cheatham, and many many more that played as beautifully and powerfully and youthfully...RIGHT UP UNTIL THE GOLDEN CHARIOT..SWOOPED down and picked them right out of this world...like a theif in the night.
Yes. today, we still have long living and equally great older musicians that have sustained their quality of performance even as we speakuth'...SUCH AS JOE WILDER, CLARK TERRY, BUDDY CHILDERS, RON OWENS, LES BEIGLE, (I GIVE UP...THE LIST IS ENDLESS of these kinds of amazing players...that still are alive and performing on a daily basis and most of all..continuing to give us wonderful quality music.
So with this in mind....I GLADLY CUT THESE ICONS..SOME REAL SLACK!
One player that I never gave up on and continued to buy his music, till the day he left this world was "Little Jazz, Roy Eldridge! HE RULED THE JAZZ TRUMPET WORLD,but even on one of his last trumpet Albums(HAPPY TIME) although truly a shell of his previous talent...I still listen again and again because my ROY, and his LOVE AND SOUL FOR JAZZ==JUST FLOW'S ALL OVER THE ROOM WHEN YOU HEAR this heart-felt rendition. - that ONLY ROY CAN PAINT with feelings that only come from a LIFETIME OF LIVING AND PRACTICING HIS GIFT OF TRUMPET PLAYING. Yes, this last recording HURTS DEEPLY..IF YOU WANT TO MAKE THE COMPARISON...BUT. the last recording has a quality that is truly waaay up onto a new level...where the angels fly...between God's earth and the Sky....
Any way...MR. ANDRE!!! I WOULD STILL WALK A MILE BARE-FOOTED OVER SNOW COVERED GROUND...OR HOT BEACH SAND....just to be around such a great human being like Maurice.
"MAY GOD GRANT HIM HAPPINESS AND CONTENTMENT in the Winter of his life...with this in mind I GRANT HIM ALL THE BEST WISHES AND GRACE that this old toot' can muster!
Does he deserve his $$$ 6000 paycheck! YES! AND A LOT MORE!!! A REFUND???? NOOOOO WAY!!!!! |
