I have an opportunity to buy a copy for about $15. I probably will buy it just because I really need a new copy but I'm wondering what they usually retail for (??).

$60????? That is high for an Arban's book. They should be around $30 brand new.

Hi;
15 dollars for a good used copy its great, but 60 dollars for a brand new one its a car jacking. The most expensive with shipping its like 38 dollars. If you prefer to buy new call Gery at Dillon Music. He will attend you very polite and proffessionally.

$15 is a good price for a used one in good condition, although I think I paid around $30 for a new one for my son a year or so ago.

So how's the CD coming? Did you, or are you spending as much time in studio as you thought?

The price on the front of mine is $5.00.

Of course there is some serious tape on it also.

Phil - I think you might be showing your age a bit there.

$15 sounds good to me, if it is new or in good condition.

It was new. I bought it, should be shipped to my house later this week. I'm just now realizing how much it hurts to lose an arbans book My practicing has suffered.

Our recording is going pretty well actually, we got a few simple songs down, just my siblings and I singing on two mics, choir style. Later on (once we get all the copyrights in order) we'll be recording a brass ensemble piece, bluegrass pieces, and some other other stuff like my harmonica solo and my sister's solos. Also we have a trombone quintet. I'm planning on starting the solo trumpet track later on this week. It's a lot of fun, but that studio gets soooooo warm! No AC, the sound engineer says it's too much noise

We're trying to work it out so we can give away the CDs. I'll let you all know - If we do get permission to record them without all the fees associated with commercially produced stuff (since we're not going to be making any money) I'll be able to send them out to whoever would like a copy and is willing to send their address to me online. Otherwise you can ask us to your church and you can have me hand it to you personally

The $60+ Arban is probably the French edition published by Leduc. It's in 3 volumes.

I have two copies, the one I bought back in HS, the other that I bought when I started my comeback and couldn't find my old copy. The cover of the new one says $18.95.

The price on what's left of the front cover of the old one says $6.00.

FWIW,

Steve

I have a couple copies of a really old Arban's books. One is a complete method and the other is just the duets on. Anyone know what they are worth?

Well, if you think $60 is excessive for an Arbans, have a look at this auction.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3724054991

Would you pay $1200!???!!
I have a turn of the century one, in leather, with gold lettering. All it says on the front cover is "cornet". It is in 3 languages. Wonder what mine is worth??

Jo-rae-me, probably more than 60.00, although I picked up a 1911 copy with the same cover as the one on the auction for 8.00. My prize piece is a leather bound Klose for Clarinet , circa 1886, first printing, that also came with some hand manuscripted sheet music, all in a really old leather folio. This cost me an afternoon helping a friend clean out his grandmother's attic after she passed away. He saw it was music, and asked me if I wanted it. The real tragedy of that day was we threw away probably hundreds of turn of the century and older books, no telling how many thousands of dollars went in the dumpster.

Never trust the judgement of a 15 year old Southern American male.......
