Anyone know a good source for the older, tall valve corks used in bottom-sprung valves--as in vintage Conns? Ferrie's perhaps?
thanks,

Hi Mulliganstew...I have had several old 22B's, 10B's, and Opera glass cornets tuned up and revitalized for me by an Ebay store called "The Bandroom". They have always replaced those long corks for me as well...What a strange design _________________ I once had it, but I lost it. Where did it go???

Ditto on the Bandroom, have found a lot of stuff there, including the conical springs for the Victor opera glass cornets. If you are replacing corks, you might want to do springs also. |

Scott,
Ferree's has them. Item A40 Slotted Tube Corks for Conn. They are sold by the dozen. They are $13.50 DZ in my November 2000 price list.

Thanks, guys. Appreciate the help. I thought Ferree's might but couldn't find my catalog. I'm also going to check out the Bandroom store--they seem to have a lot of stuff (though maybe a bit overpriced).

I have an old 22b that Im trying to restore (just a lil repair practice) and it needed new corks on the valve tops and the spit valve, so sinceI work at an ace store I just cut myself of 3/4" cork off the roll, cut it into shape with an exacto knife and sanded it down to the right thickness. it might not be the most practical way, but it only cost me $0.89 |

I've been using wine bottle corks for the spit valves, they work well, I bet they'd work ok for the valves too. I'm trying to figure a good way to cut felt to the right size without it being sloppy. Although I guess I'm being cheap, should just buy some and be done with it.
