Someone refresh my memory.

Which generally has the darker tone to it???

I remember seeing a thread about this recently but cannot seem to find it.

Apparently the Rose Brass is the darker one.

Just think;

Rose Brass = Red = dark

Yellow Brass = Yellow = Bright

What about Sterling Silver bells?

I just had a rose brass bell V1 made for me by Fred Powell at Conn. I must admit that I was skeptical at first of the rose brass but Fred assured me that I would want to try it out. This set up gives me a fatter sound that I had on my yellow bell and it burns like crazy. I am now using the 34 pipe as opposed to the 46 which was on my other V1.

Fred said that he knows a few top lead players that like this particular configuration. All I can say is that this particular horn is an improvement for me.

Bri, is your #34 leadpipe reverse or standard? Also, which main slide do you prefer? (This was the topic of a recent thread here on TH).

Thanks guys.

The Conn-v-1 flugel I bought has the rose brass bell.I love it.Most open horn I have played yet.Looking forward to trying out the GRFD mouthpiece that Brian Recommends.Should be DaBomb.

My V1 was rose brass. Like Bri's, it produced a fat sound and was still easy to light up. Dave Kessler tells me that the popular V1's are the yellow brass version. He says they simply outsell the rose bells. The yellow brass seems to cut a bit better, but I think it's easier to brighten up a dark sounding horn than darken a bright horn, just by using a shallower or different mouthpiece.
