Hey guys,
My former band director has a 70's bach strad...I notice the finish is totally different from mine which was made after 2001..(cant find a serial number website with anything newer than 01) It looks to me its satin silver..either that or his finish is worn...even when he had it polished up it still looked like it had a satin silver finish....did silver strads have a satin finish back then?
P.S. I know theres quite a bit of time between the 70's and now I was just wondering if thats all they did it in back then?

I have a "72" Strad and it was polished silver, it's gold now. I must have played between 12 & 15 different horns when I was trying Bachs and they were all polished silver.

Bright silver or lacquer over yellow brass and nickel silver has been the standard since prior to the 70s.

Bach did do Satin Silver finished for his early horns in New York but I don't think he did for the Mt. Vernon's. I'm quite sure Selmer didn't offer this as an option either in Elkhart for the Strad's. It must have been aftermarket I'm thinking for the 70s Strad I'm thinking.

Those dont quite help me....I have sites that go way past 1994...I got one as far up as April 2001....but my serial number exceeds that serial group greatly....
EDIT: and about the satin silver...I could be wrong, his horns finish is worn alittle so im sure its due to time and wear, I havent seen it in awhile its just what i remember
