Here is my arrangement for 5 trumpets of Carlo Maria Gesualdo’s ‘O Vos Omnes’ of 1603, arranged, performed, recorded and produced by me.

This is a hauntingly beautiful piece of music written by a man with an extraordinary history.

Gesualdo was the Prince of Venosa and Count of Conza in the renaissance era. His extreme chromatic progressions and unprepared changes of harmony were unprecedented at the time and stretch the boundaries on tonality even to our modern ears over 400 years later.

Strikingly, his behaviour was characteristic of possible mental illness and he was known to be a violent sadist, culminating in the brutal murder of his wife and her lover. This led to various rumours and legends about him over the centuries, with some believing he was a victim of demonic possession. The idea of the connection between his mental instability and his extreme harmonic language is a captivating one.

Great piece and playing. Fantastic. As I was listening to this, I occurred to me that this might be a brilliant Brass Band concert piece. Have you thought about arranging this for BB?

Same thought here! Beatiful performance. As a hymn for a brassband in a
churchconcert - should fascinate the audience! Not to mention the players!
Thanks for presenting!

Hi guys and thank you for your kind input. I have just arranged this out for brass quintet if you know of anyone who may be interested? I shall begin arranging it for brass band as soon as I get the time. I imagine the sonoroties of a full brass band would lend beautifully to this work.

Thanks again!
