hey all,
i didn't know exactly where to post this, but since i'm mainly concerned with jazzers, i thought i'd start here.
do you have any favorite quotes by or about trumpets/trumpet players? i'm redesigning my web page, and would love to include some cool quotes.
post 'em if you got 'em!
thanks,

Not spoken by a trumpet player but interesting anyway.

"Everyone wants to be the Hero, but no one wants to slay the dragon!"
- Wynton Marsalis on the topic of practice
"Hardwork beats talent 8 days a week!"
- Marsalis
(This quote was made about those with incredible talent that do not practice and utilize their talents and those that do not have as much talent that work very very hard to achieve great results.) |

Man, I like that second one...But my question is, why aren't the talented guys in the practice room? I've had the chance to meet some really talented people, and if I sounded as good as some of them, I don't think I could ever STOP practicing....Just a little musing.
And my quotes:
"Trumpet playing must be natural. If it wasn't, you couldn't do it." - Boyde Hood
"If you don't breathe, you die." - Boyde Hood
"A note don't give a f**k who played it, 'long as he played it well." - Miles Davis (99% sure) _________________ RJM

"I never tried to prove nothing, just wanted to give a good show. My life has always been my music, it's always come first, but the music ain't worth nothing if you can't lay it on the public. The main thing is to live for that audience, 'cause what you're there for is to please the people."

The Flugel is your friend
The Trumpet is your spouse
Take care not to mix the two
Or you may loose your house...........

This wasn't by a trumpeter but it was said to a brass ensemble I was playing in:
"It ain't nuthin' if it ain't loud!"
Compliments of Ray Ferguson, longtime organist and harpsichordist with
the Detroit Symphony, who passed away in October of 2002.

From one of Miles' lessons with Vacchiano as a new student at Juilliard:
Vacchiano: "Ok. You are holding your Bb trumpet, and the music says trumpet in Eb. What do you do?"
Miles: "Put the horn back in the case, man..."
