How about "The Poem of A Love Supreme" as read by Orson Welles?

I actually heard LCJO perform "Persurance" at a concert last year and it was impressive. Eric Lewis played an amazing piano solo on it - extremely energetic. One person said that the only thing left for him to do was to roll the piano off the stage. There was certainly some truth to that - I got tired just listening to him. I will probably check out the recording when it drops next Tuesday.
It is pretty ambitious to try to tackle music that was pretty much flawless (dare I say perfect?) when it was originally recorded. A Love Supreme is easily one of my top 10 favorite albums... maybe even top 5. Branford really tackled the beast when he performed it on his Footsteps of Our Fathers CD. I'm tempted to check that out as well.
Another good "recreation" CD that was discussed here a while ago is Ingrid Jensen with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra performing Miles Ahead. Talk about a big shadow to play under (Miles). They used the Gil Evans arrangements but Ingrid approached each solo with her own style.
Which reminds me... I still need to pick up Clark Terry's Porgy and Bess.... _________________ Eric M. Brewington
