Kanstul 725 flugelhorn vs Getzen Eterna flugelhorn

I need a little help in selecting a Flugelhorn. Ive been playing the trumpet and cornet for a few years, and I'm interested in picking up a flugelhorn. I mainly play Jazz and funk. These are two horns I have and opportunity to purchase. Any info from owners or former players of these horns would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I generally liked all the Kanstuls I've played. But the horn you mention is the student model with horizontal slides and probably not the best choice. I've only played a one Getzen that played and sounded the way I like, the rest didn't work for me. I currently own a Getzen Eterna that's on permanent loan to a friend because I prefer the Yamaha horns.

No its the 725, its listed on their website as an intermediate model.

I'm happy with my Getzen Eterna, specially about the sound. Not so much about intonation, but this could also be a matter of which mouthpiece you play. I play on a Wick 2F and intonation problems can be solved quite easily lipping up or down, anyway.
Much of flugel playing of Freddie Hubbard was on a Getzen Eterna flugel.

play both and choose the one that works best for you, if possible use the same mouth piece on both horns to eliminate that variable. I have owned a Getzen Eterna and a Benge 5 flugel, both pro models and now own a Yamaha 231 student flugel and to be honest the student Yamaha works best for me. You need to play what works for you and not what works best for someone else. Good luck and have fun.

The reason all Kanstul flugelhorn models play well and in tune is because sometime between the design of the Benge flugels and the 1525 Byron Autrey worked out the formula for the bell branch dimensions so that the horn (any flugelhorn) would be in tune reliably.

Zig and Byron collaborated on many projects over the years. Those two have given the brass world SO much, we may never know the extent.

BTW, Byron has worked closely with Getzen as well.
