Here is a King Symphony horn on ebay. Is it really worth this much?

Just wondering.

Well, I guess it's worth what the market will bear, but no, they usually go for about half this. Ebat is crazy sometimes.

So that's where Indian makers get their cheap idea...

Well, one buyer believes it's worth it.

I believe that opening bid is from the seller.

I'd want to speak with the seller, but the condition is 90+% and the case is mint and he's got all the original paperwork. These are very good horns. The ones that go for $600 to $800 tend to have considerably more wear. I owned one for many years that was stolen from me, so I'm tempted for sentimental reasons. I'd prefer to a brand new Bach, so to the right buyer, I think it's worth around $1200.

I've got one for $650. Here are a couple pictures of it. Valves and slides are tight.

Hey Brian, you describe it as a Siversonic. Is it really a Super 20 Symphony? I might be interested if it's a Super 20 with dual bore. Is that the King case with the fake alligator on the edges? Where would you place the condition, lacquer and ding-wise? (It looks pretty good in the pictures).

Brian, I think yours is s Silversonic, based on the main slide brace placemtn and the saddle instead of ring on #1. Thanks anyway.

Dave,

The one on ebay looks in pretty good shape. I believe they are fairly rare. I would be tempted if it was $900 to $1,000.

It is a beautiful horn. If you really want it, $1200 isn't an outrageous price to pay for a trumpet. If you aren't sure $1200 is worth it to you, I would keep looking. I don't think you would be able to sell it for the same price. Personally, I like looking for old horns, and it makes it even more exciting when I get a nice one for a fairly low price.

The main slide brace was moved because the horn plays better with it there.

Mine's a Silversonic symphony, it does not say "DB" on the valve casing.
Serial number is 704xxx. There is evidence of dent removal on the first valve slide. There are no other visible dents. The lacquer does not look as clean as the picture when you get up close, but, it's about 90%.
There is no lacquer on the bell. The brace was moved, so you can see solder where it was originally. There's no rot on the horn. The bell has gold wash. The case is black, not the alligator one.

I also have #656xxx DB that has no lacquer. It has a patch on the bell and a Pilczuk leadpipe. The valves were overhauled and are like new. I would take $550 if I don't have to shine it. No dents, no rot. The only flaw is that there is small crack under the patch

Neither of mine say super 20 on the bell

That's what I was thinking, but I want a Super 20. Thanks for your help.

I played one of these horns for 4 years... serial # 413xxx. I should have NEVER sold it. My horn recorded extremely well.. had great response .. and the darn thing just felt great to hold. What a rich beautiful sound ... And it sure had a stunning look. If I didn't just drop some $$ on a Calicchio, I would seriously consider buying the horn up for auction.

What's the difference between the two? I have a Silversonic that is not DB. A Silversonic Symphony that is DB, and a Super 20 Symphony that is DB.

All 3 say Siversonic on the bell. Compunding the confusion is the fact that all tuning slides are interchangeable. Shouldn't the reg not fit in the DB? Maybe the wall thickness is different? Then they would work with different bore sizes. I don't feel like checking again. A good horn is a good horn. It can always be made better though.

I know an idiot who told me that his Silversonic was originally owned by Donald Bird.

Brian, I'd be interested in a Super 20 Symphony with a db and sterling bell, in good condition. Send me some pics at dctep@swbell.net or point me to them on your web site if you have such a horn for sale.

Thanks,

Dave
