Are you sure you want to do that? I love the olds 3 mouthpiece. I'm looking for one for my trumpet. It has a great sound on my Olds Ambassador (early furrelton with a pinky ring). There great horns and you can get them cheap to. I got mine for 90 bucks. I still need to fix the big dent in the bell and it plays pretty flat to. _________________ Do or do not, there is no try.

It is done... and I do not regret it. The Olds 3 was pretty nice but a little trumpet like in sound. Now I can use a "true" cornet style mouthpiece and get a regular cornet piece as well. Just to many options not to get the new receiver. _________________ DCB <><

I made my own reciever for my LA olds a while back and copped flack from some people on this forum for modifying it........
It's not as though it is a rare horn. The 3 was very bright for what I want so a quick change and now I play it the most!!!!!!
They are great little cornets and when I have finished mine I will post some pics. _________________ 2007 Eclipse MR

I have considered having new receivers put on my ambassadors, but i find flugelhorm pieces work quite well for me. similar deep cups keep the tones mellow, though I would like to find something with a shallower cup for variety. _________________ - Paul Artola

WOW... I just got my Warburton BC! I love it.... better than the Sprax.... better than anything I have tried.
Very mellow and sweet yet projects well. I plays nice and smoky on my Olds and sounds great on my 80A. I am using a #8 bb.
Later.... peace! _________________ DCB <><

Scott Black plays cornet to backup legendary Leon Redbone. After Redbone's recent Iowa City performance, I rushed the stage from my seat in the back row to talk to Scott. From the back, I could tell that he was playing a Conn Victor (that extra tuning slide), but I asked about the other cornet he played. He said that he had been unable to practice for a week, so he brought along an easier blow to trade off. Of course it was an Ambassador. _________________ Jim Calkins

That would have to be a very interesting gig. Leon sees the world differently for sure, must be those glasses. |

Pardon me, isn't the kanstul KCR731 cornet just like the olds Ambassador cornet ? I read an old thread that suggested Zig Kanstul was using that design for his K-series cornets written by a Kanstul dealer |

I played my Olds this Sunday using it for a flugel part.
The other player was using a Blessing flugel with a Wick mouthpiece.... I was using a Warburton BC top and S10* bb. WOW... it sounded as good as his flugel but the Olds had more depth to the sound and projected better.
I'm happy! _________________ DCB <><

What type of reciever did you install? Long Shank or Short Shank? |

Long shank. It is the receiver that the newer Olds cornets have on them. _________________ DCB <><

I thought about doing that, but I couldn't find an old reciever that wasn't chewed up by a mouthpiece puller. I've decided on replacing the reciever on mine with a short shank for several reasons. I've found that my playing the larger backbore mouthpieces that I like had me tuning with my slide completely in and sometimes lipping up into pitch. By using a short shank reciever I will be reducing the length and volume in the mouthpipe by a little under a half inch without actually having to have the mouthpipe cut down. Also I'll be able to use my Curry VC7 and my Yamaha 11E4 without adaptors.

At one time I believe that Kanstul was making the 609 series of Trumpet for Blessing that was the actual Ambassador copy. I don't know about a cornet copy. |
