Single, think and articulate similar to saying Ta, Ta, Ta, Ta, etc.
Double, think and articulate similar to saying Ta Ka, Ta Ka, Ta Ka, etc.
The reciprocating action of the tongue articulates the attack of the note both as the tip hits the teeth, lips, or roof of the mouth (whole different thread in that subject alone.......) The next note, the Ka, is the back of the tongue feeling as if it is hitting the roof of the mouth, well behind where the tip just articulated Ta. This enables the notes to be articulated twice as fast.
Triple, is just a rapid combination of Single and Double. Depending on the music, phrasing, performer's preference, either Ta Ta Ka, or Ta Ka Ta _________________ Larry Woods

Triple can also be Tu, du, ku, which is a little faster in my case.
When I learned to double tougue my teacher encouraged me to do it whenever possible, especially when not playing the horn. Like when walking to school.
At the time I could not see doing it, but looking back it was very good advice. |
