I just got some of these:
http://www.mouthpieceexpress.com/catalog/index2.php?cPath=1_375_437
Just the bottom caps. Made them custom just for my horn! He doesn't have a home page (I wish he did!) This guy Peter Pickett lives in my town and comes into the music store where I work. They are great! My horn is really lightweight and I have REALLY noticed a difference in the weight they add. _________________ My horn:

Why would you want your horn to be heavier? I understand if the heavier caps improve response, focus or slotting, but for my money, if I could find a way to REDUCE the weight of a trumpet, I would.
My upper back sometimes aches the day after a rock band gig, depending on the songs we play and how long the sets last. This last weekend was no exception. I recently bought a Schilke B6, and it is quite a bit lighter than my Strad and I am thankful for this.
Those caps might look cool, but you can't hear good looks, so unless they imrove the way the horn plays, again I ask, why would you want to ADD weight to your trumpet? _________________ Patrick Gleason

Well, Patrick, CCcaps turned my 77 Benge mlp into an 'all around' horn from a strictly bright, commercial horn. They stablized the upper register a bit too, and allow me to hold the Benge with my fingertips...An all around plus. I just got a very nice, very singing-like 25yo Bach 37 and it certainly won't be getting any extra weight. Maybe a single radius tuning slide...but no more weight. It all about the individual horn and the needs of the player. |

Right. You added the caps to change the blow/feel and playability of the trumpet. My comment went out to Angie who appears to have purchased the caps for the sole reason of adding weight to a trumpet.
I had the Bach heavy caps on my trumpet. (Not nearly as heavy as CCaps) The reason? Improved centering and slotting - it has nothing to do with wanting them just to add weight. _________________ Patrick Gleason

Another source for weighted caps is Milashius. I just got a set for my Xeno and Bach and they are very well made and reasonably-priced. Plus they are very plain; I didn't care for the detailing on the CCaps... |

I assumed she was talking about the Effect the weight would have, not just weight for no reason. Why would a person add weight for no reason? (Well, maybe to use as a weapon durring marches)(Conn vocabell could be used as an axe) |

I apologize for not being clearer in posting this thread. I didn't get these just to add weight. Besides the fact that they look really cool , I wanted to see what effect they would have since I am so used to a lighter horn. They really darkened up my sound, which I love, in addition to the slotting and centering aspect. The only genre I play is jazz - I play 3rd book, and I feel like my darker sound can blend well and really fill out the inner parts.
If I wanted to add weight just for the h*ll of it, I would be playing a different horn.
Hope that clears things up. _________________ My horn:

For Bach owners, it looks like it is cheaper to go through Mouthpiece Express than through his site. _________________ --Matt--

Yeah, it looks it. To be sure, email him and ask. Maybe if you mention it he will give them to you at the mpcexpress.com price. _________________ My horn:

If it's a darker sound you're after...add some neoprene rings also. I find they fatten the sound noticeably, but the response is hindered. For lead playing I don't use them, but for concert band in the staff they really help. |
