I just switched to a bobby shew 1.5 from the jw mar. signature piece (a little larger than the bobby shew) and lost a few notes off of my range. With the new piece I have a little better tone and can play all day up to a high G with more security than my last piece, but I lost those extreme notes above that up to the double C or so. Not that I could play them well but I could always squeeze them out if I really tried. With the 1.5 I can get a little piece of them but nothing I can hang on to.

Is this just from switching to a slightly smaller piece and getting adjusted? It's only been a few days, will those notes come back? I never used them but they made me so happy

Chris,
It takes more than a few days. The resistance is different just by the fact that it is a smaller mouthpiece. You might need to back off a bit and practice softer, and rest more frequently for a week or so.

Hey you guys were right on. I spent yesterday doing lots of arbans, clarke and etudes. And not very loud either. Then today I started by doing soft chromatic scales, but when I finally opened it up I could play a diatonic scale right up to a big double C!

So yeah, I'm happy again
