Hawkes & Son were one of the finest British manufacturers of the day, before merging with Boosey & Co. in 1934 (to form Boosey & Hawkes, which in time became Besson, which went into receivership at the end of last year - it has now been bought by Buffet, who used to be owned by Boosey & Hawkes - a very complicated company). I have only limited serial number knowledge, but what I have dates that instrumnt from before 1914.
Having played a number of Hawkes & Son instruments (I think I own 2 trumpets at the moment), I am a fan of the tone that they generally produce and I am frequently surprised how good the inotnation is.
I hope yours is as good as most of the instruments from Hawkes & Son that I have played.

Remember that this instrument will be in 'high pitch' unless already converted.
