Hi I have not played a lot soprano but I have the chanse now.
I use a Bosey & Hawkes and a Bob Reeves 40ES.
Is ther a problem using a shallow mp on the Eb Cornet.
I get very sharp in the low reg. but ok above middle C.
Anny ideas: I play lead tp in a Big band also.
I have realy problems playing soft and pp
I would realy like the Eb to soar nice on the band.
????

The classic Eb problem. You feel you need a shallow mouthpiece to support the range, but it creates problems in soft playing and intonation
Going sharp in the low register is likely caused by a physical mismatch between the mouthpiece and the cornet. It also might be caused by the piece being too small and shallow with too high an alpha angle, which doesn't allow your lips to open up enough to play those notes in tune. Likely the only solution is a different mouthpiece.
Playing a trumpet type shallow mouthpiece on Eb just sounds wrong. Get a soprano mouthpiece. Denis Wick makes one, or GR has a range of soprano cornet mouthpieces. Then practice like mad to gain back the range and endurance.
Have a read of the GR website mouthpiece tutorial. The soft playing issue is a sure sign that the 40ES is too small and tight for you, with too high an alpha angle. Get the right mouthpiece (and practice) and these issues should be solved quite quickly.
Playing soprano cornet is a very tough gig. I hope you enjoy it!
