Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary

One entry found for coronet.
Main Entry: cor·o·net
Pronunciation: "kor-&-'net, "kär-
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle French coronette, from Old French coronete, from corone
1 : a small or lesser crown usually signifying a rank below that of a sovereign

Sorry, but I couldn't resist.

Hi,

I have one that is currently at Mizell Music for overhaul. I ordered it from Giardinelli's in 1980. Nice sound but there were no intonation aids so I had a 3rd valve slide ring installed which helped but Mizell's are adding a stop and a thumb hook ala "Wild Thing" - note the visual similarities - almost identical. Bore size is .468, silver plate a bit thin like most Benges of the period. I really like the instrument. Improved sound with a Sparx 3B soloist m/p or Curry 3VC. John at MM tells me that they plan to use my cornet on their new web site because it turned out so well - satin silver with bright trim, gold plated bell throat - can't wait to get it back. Try one, it's a nice cornet with the benefit of looking like one of Flip's creations!

Cheers,

Brian

The Benge 8Z was a very nice cornet. They were discontinued by Conn-Selmer two years ago.
