Anyone know anything about how these short cornets play? In your opinion are they suitable for a brass band?
I've checked the Conn Loyalist (great site, btw), but I'm looking for any additional help I can get!
Thanks!

A few months ago there was a 76A and an Ambassador in eBay from the same seller and I asked him for a comparison between the two. Here's the answer:
"As far as the sound of the Ambassador vs. the Conquest it is a close
call. I just played and compared both of them with several different
mouthpieces. With a Bach 7C "standard" mp I can't tell a bit of
difference in tone, but with a more proper, cornet, deep-cup mp I
believe the Conquest has a touch "darker" sound. The one thing I have
determined in my cornet quest is that the mp has much more to due
with the "cornet" sound that the horn. I have, however, found the
large bore Conns, whether they be a "student" Director, a Connqest,
or a "pro" Connstellation to be among the best playing horns (for me)
to be found." |

The tubing of Conn 76A is quite different. The same tubing is used in Olds Recording cornets. I don't know if there's any other cornet like this. I don't know if such a tubing has advantages either but at least they look so cute. |

Thanks, so55! There was a 76A on eBay until last night. I had placed a bid earlier in the day, but had a concert last night and I couldn't keep my eye on it!
From all I had heard they were supposed to be a pretty good horn. Guess I'll have to wait for another one!
Thanks again,

Here's a little bit of information from the Conn Loyalist website about the 76A

Thanks, Evan! I had read that little blurb on the Conn Loyalist site, but wondered if anyone had actually played or owned one of these horns.
It seems as though I missed a nice deal! Oh, well, lose some, lose some.
Thanks again,

Yup, and there is another one on right now as well. I wonder if someone opened a vault...... I have them both bookmarked!
Thanks for remembering me! I might luck out this time.
