Hello all,
About 5 weeks ago I quit caruso, and started to work on the balanced embouchure. Now I am wanting to start doing caruso again. Should I immediatley start back from where i left off, at week 8, or slowly start implementing the excersises back in? Thanks.

Well, I am not an expert by any means but I have studied with Carmine Caruso and I am now doing SC with some BE supplementation. Both methods can work but they are different ( I believe that Jeff Smiley is experimenting with combining them) and both require more than a few weeks to work. My advice is to pick one and stay with it. Given that Caruso is deceased and Jeff Smiley is alive and answering his mail I'd probably go with BE but both do work and both do work well

If you choose to begin Caruso again, start at the begining.

Hey Goldenchops!

Could you explain why you quit Caruso stuff and now are going back to it.

As posted recently, I doing BE and Caruso and don't have any problems with it.
Combined, they make for a really good workout.

Thanks for the replies. I am not droping either method. I stopped doing Caruso because of band camp and school starting. Charly reccomended I lay off the Caruso after doing some heavy playing. So I did. I just want to know if I can start back again at the same place.
Ms. Frink, do i HAVE to start over from the beginning? I am really not to excited at the sound of that.

Goldenchops,

Did we miscommunicate. As I recall, I had advised you to stay off the calisthenics if you were doing a lot of heavy blowing in band camp. I assumed you would go back to your regular Caruso schedule after band camp finished or on days that didn't involve especially heavy blowing.

Did you practice the the low F#s after each heavy blowing rehearsal?

Give me an update on how far you had gotten with the exercises before you stopped.

After a layoff from Calisthenics of from a week up to a month, I typically start with the First or Second Week of exercises, but I only spend 2 or 3 days on each lesson (once a day) until I either get to the point where it is obvious that I should stop on this lesson and stay here until my balance is reestablished or until I reach the lesson I was working on when I laid off.

Right now I am coming back from a week of vacation and I am on day 3 of my practice of Week Five in Charly's "Getting Started" schedule. Tomorrow I will probably move on to Week Six.

Charly,
I was finishing week 8 when band started. Then I stopped. Band camp lasted two weeks. When school started it started going easier on my chops, but I really havn't had that much free time to do them. PH, your advice sounds good. Thanks.
