I just got a Monette B6 STC2 mouthpiece, and my initial impression after 3 days is the best initial impression I have ever had on any mouthpiece. For once I can have sound AND playability....
...more to follow. |

I used a B6 for about a year and got to a point where I wasn't improving anymore, then I moved to a Curry 3z. But best of luck with your B6 the tone is very nice and intonation is great. _________________ Yamaha 8335LA/ Selmer Paris Radial

I bought my B6 second hand and I find information about these mouthpieces to be notoriously hard to find.
What's the difference between the STC-1 and STC-2? _________________ Lawler TL6-1A #822 -Satin silver w/ polished trim

I believe you can always visit the http://www.monette.net for more information.
Concerning your question, STC-1 is their standard weight while the STC-2 heavier. They also have even heavier STC-3. But I think it may be more than the weight. The following is a quote from their site:
"Of all the models of Bb mouthpieces, only the Monette STC-1 and LT mouthpieces are designed for use on non-Monette instruments. The other, heavier mouthpiece models will not “match” the weight of conventional instruments, and therefore we offer them only to players who use an appropriate model of Monette instrument." _________________ Greetings from Hong Kong,

Oh yeah.
After a while of playing on this thing, it's my new main piece.
Has a bigger diameter than my old GR64MS but still not an endurance issue. Tone is better, softer, more warm-n-cozy and the cup is big enough to free up a lot of flexibilities I thought I was losing. Blow resistance is bang on the money.
Happy happy joy joy....

Just a question about monettes, i've heard about monette 'slap' pranas, but how do you know if it's a 'slap' model, or just a regular prana? _________________ Bb Trumpet: Bach Stradivarius 180-S37

The B6 sounds great, as do most all the Monette pieces. Many use them including notable pros so they obviously have a lot going for them. However, see if you say the same good things about the B6 a couple of months (weeks?) from now. The extra weight starts feeling like lugging a sand bag after a certain point (IMO). It's also hard to get your own "personality" through. Do we all really want to sound like Wynton? In other words, they have a nice sound but it tends to be a bit generic. I know there are many Monette advocates and if they work for you that's fine, however I've found that there are many other great pieces out there in regular weight. Such as GR, Karl Hammond, Laskey and certain vintage pieces among others. But this turd in the punch bowl aside, good luck! |
