Hi guys,
I'm doing a report at school on "American union crisis and its effects on orchestras and other music organizations". I'm aware that recently, there have been many problems orchestras staying up as managements have been working on new contracts (St. Louis, Rockettes band, Chicago had a scare a while ago I think). Many of you are probably involved with the AFM and would know something about this. Feel free to leave any info or opinions on anything that you think I and anyone else should know. I would appreciate that greatly. Also send me a PM if youd rather not post. Thanks for the help!

The website "Adaptistration" has lots of interesting articles - many of which deal directly with contract negotiations for orchestras.

Check out a book called: "More than meets the ear: how symphony musicians made labor history" by Julie Ayer. You should be able to get it on Amazon.com.
It gives an interesting history of the relationship between the AFM, ICSOM and symphony musicians. A good read for anyone already in or interested in the orchestral field. |
