Hello, I just received a Benge 90 from an Ebay purchase. I was expecting an ML but much to my surprise its a large bore and I really like the sound. My question is, should I switch to a smaller mpc for the LG bore? I currently use a Schilke 14 for my ML. I tried an old Bach 7C I had lying around and I don't think it gave the full sound of the 14.
Also, I havn't found many posts on the Benge 90, so if any of you have comments I would appreciate hearing them.
Thanks,
Gary H |

The so-called Benge 90 isn't really a Benge. Yes, it has the Benge 'brand' on it, but it does not share any of the design of the true Benge trumpet.
Instead, it is the product of UMI having purchased the Benge name and attempting to market some trumpet with it. I have no idea what this trumpet is.

I believe it is a .462 bore, ala Bach L bore. I'd play it for a while. There isn't that much of a difference to worry about it yet.

I played one before and found them to be very good horns. Not a real Benge but a real player. |

The Benge 90BL has a .462" bore which is not large when compared to a Holton MF Horn or Benge 7X. The horn is a very fine instrument that was designed by United Musical Instruments in the early 1980s (at the same time they created the Benge professional trombones with artistic assistance from Cleveland Orchestra members.)
It is a very heavy, solidly-built trumpet with a rich core sound created for symphonic playing as well as general use. (That sort of describes a Bach, doesn't it?) It was never meant to be anything like a lightweight Benge X series trumpet.
Don't fret over the bore size- just play it! _________________ C. G. Conn 60B Super Connstellation
