Does anyone know any specialist trumpet/brass shops in LA? Any that sell good used and vintage instruments too? |

I bought a Schilke E3L-4 last year from a shop in SoCal called Sawday & Holmes Music. They have two locations...one in Signal Hills and one in Downey. I dealt only on the phone with them and had a pretty good experience. The horn came quickly and properly packed. http://www.snhmusic.com/
I think Kanstul also restores and repairs horns other than their own, but I don't know much about it. I'm sure some other west coast TH'ers can give you more scoop. I just got to Vegas from the east last fall. _________________ Cogito, ergo sum |

Steve Ferguson's shop is pretty good http://www.hornguys.com, although they specialize in trombones. I don't think that anyone in Los Angeles has a good selection of vintage horns. |

Steve Dillard seems to have a decent selection of vintage horns, although the price is a premium www.horntrader.com The one good thing you get from him is that he knows what he is selling, so you know what you're getting. If you make an appointment to go to his place, he'll even let you sit with a tuner and play the horn carefully before buying. 7 day return policy too if I recall.
Also, Zep's in Burbank gets quite excited at the chance to buy rare or otherwise noted horns. They wanted to sell me a 1950s Conn C trumpet (for a decent price too) but I wanted a player's horn, not a collectors. They don't usually have much of a selection in vintage, but it's a nice place to check back on from time to time. _________________ "Well, I guess you can cut the arts as much as you want... For vintage horns in LA, talk to Robb Stewart. _________________ Kevin |

^ How could I have forgotten him? Some day, I'm going to take this family heirloom cornet (Conn circa 1900) and see if he can look it over and talk to me about fixing the leaks and hide the dent work on the bell. _________________ "Well, I guess you can cut the arts as much as you want...
