Looks like a Chinese horn that has had the lacquer wear off. The pictures of the finget buttons (plastic pearls) and the size of the 3rd slide stop screws and the stamping on the valve block all make me feel that this is not a good horn. |

I think the serial number says it all - TS0438
TS0 clearly is an abreviation for Trumpet Shaped Object!

It sold for $630. It was rumored to be a Chicago Brassworks horn, but who knows?
It's amazing that people, myself included, will shell out money for something they know nothing about.

It's a Zeus Garnerius, and $600 or so is probably about what it is worth.
It's amazing how quickly things like the "Zeus Wars" seem to be forgotten... _________________ Brent Edwards

I'm going to guess it is one of the Holton Strad knock offs. Any Holton Symphony owners out there that can idetify these serial number markings? It is definately not a Chicago Brass Works since Wayne Tanabe used Baufeind valves which these are not. If not a Holton then it very well could be a Chinese Strad knock off with the lacquer stripped.

Sorry. It is a Zeus G or at the very least another Kanstul-made stencil horn just like the Zeus G. I am not guessing. I have a raw brass Zeus G on my desk in front of me as I write this that belongs to one of my daughter's friends. _________________ Brent Edwards

It is not a Zues G or by Kanstul for that matter. the valve casings are nothing like what Kanstul makes. the Holtons T100 series is copied from the Bach Strads but the valve casing looks different from the Strads too. This one looks like a Bach to me. |

I'm with serious horn collector Steve on this one too!
The valve casing is NOT Bach and is NOT Kanstul.
Someone got royally screwed on that auction! The seller should have NEVER dropped the names of famous custom makers and attempted to tie that nameless blunder in with the premium horn segment.

Well as usual we must all scrape and bow to the all-knowing Tom Turner.
My very eyes fail me in the wake of Tom's collector status.
I am not worthy. And I am so out of this topic. _________________ Brent Edwards

I sent a message to the buyer to let me know how the horn turns out and if it's worth the money. I didn't mention that it's a thread topic here. Don't know if I'll get a response.

NO WAY. The CBW horns had rimless bells and superior parts to that piece. I wouldn't trust that seller given the misleading stuff he's posting. I didn't read his feedback, but it's hard to believe it's so strong.

Jim is right. The valve section and finger buttons definatly look Chinese. Also look at the 3rd slide stop screws, they are consistant to the Chinese screws. $600 for a used Chinese horn with the lacquer faded off. |
