What's happening with all the fraudulent 2nd chance offers. I've gotten 4 just today (each from a different username) for the same item. One even came through "My Messages " in ebay. How do you ebay hounds deal with all this crap?

Ignore it.
I've only gotten one genuine 2nd chance offer in the years I've purchased via ebay... and I checked it out about 4 times to make sure it was genuine! It's the ebay newbies that get bit by the fraudulant 2nd chance offers. |

I agree with Janet, simply igore it. It's a waste of energy to respond, and it accomplishes nothing that's very productive. |

Just NEVER ever reply to them. Most of the ones I have seen lately are clear account take overs requesting that you respond to a "specific" email address ... yeah right. _________________ Bb - Yamaha Xeno 8335RGS

I used to send & receive/Buy & sell via many Second Chance Offers, until the last 6 months or so that it appears eBay's system has been "hacked". It is my understanding, however, that if it shows up in "My Messages" that it is in fact legitimate. Have not had that happen recently, though...... _________________ Sparks in Daytona

You can not count on a Second Chance offer being legitimate if it appears in "My Messages". Every fraudulant Second Chance I ever got appeared in there. |

I'm like Steve. I thought that the stuff in 'My Messages' was all supposed to be legit. Appearantly not so! BTW, the item I'm talking about is a 1947 Martin Committee that sold last Saturday.
I just got my 5th 2nd Chance Offer (and I was way down on the bid list).

I send every suspicious-looking email to spoof@ebay.com. This is what eBay recommends you do. They send you two emails back, one of which is automated -- you receive it just after you send the spoof email. The other is one that says "this email was not sent by eBay."
This may or may not cut down on the amount of spoof emails you get, but you will find out for sure (at least most of the time) if the offer(s) you get is(are) legit or not.
Hope this helps,

I'm with all4Him on this. Also... don't ever ever ever click on a link in any of these scam emails. In just clicking on the link, you have given up info. DON'T DO IT. _________________ Conn 6B

Another thing to watch out for are emails to your regular email address that tell you that you need to update your info for PayPal. Never, never respond to those! Every one of them is a scam just looking to access your money and steal your ID. |

How can you be so sure?
We've read personal accounts here on TH of people having their Ebay accounts highjacked by someone that figured out or stole their password. A message from a highjacked account will look legitimate until the valid user reports the odd activity in the account.

Man,
This is ridiculous. I just got my 6th fraudulent 2nd chance offer. How did this bum get my email address?

not always. If a 2nd chance offer apears on you "my ebay" home page its legit. On your home page there will be "Items I did not win" at the bottom. In small letters will be 2nd chance offer and usually a zero next to it. If it is legit, there will be a 1 next too it and a link below it tittled 2nd chance offer. It will look like a regular auction you are watching. Never trust an email, just forward everything to spoof@ebay.com . They will respond too you telling you it was a fraud. |

I got three second chance offers on a Mt Vernon today -- all through My Messages -- all from different sources. If what you say is correct, then there are 3 Mt. Vernons all with the same item number, pictures and serial number! _________________ C - Harrelson 750 Modified Bach Strad

Didn't I just say that? You can only retrieve 'My Messages" thru eBay once you have logged in.
The 'My Messages' page is where you receive secure, relevant messages from eBay and from other eBay members. All messages originate from eBay systems and are guaranteed to be authentic.
Messages include information such as:
Important alerts about your account that require your immediate attention
Member-to-member communications (Ask a Question, Contact eBay Member, and Second Chance Offer)
Customer Support correspondence and replies
Useful information about buying and selling
News about upcoming activities, events, and product updates
Copies of your seller invoices for listing and final value fees
Policy changes and other special notices
And that was taken straight from eBay site.
Been buying and selling on eBay for 6 years now and have never been screwed on a transaction, let alone a second chance offer. As I read some of the posts that are being said about eBay, it's obvious some just don't know how it operates. Read the help topics on procedures and you'll set yourself up to shop safely and secure. If you don't, you have no businees even being on the internet. |

2nd chance offer is only legitimate if comes from original seller of the item you bid on. Email with 2nd chance offer must contain link to ebay item with ONLY BUY IT NOW BUTTON for the exactly same price as you placed your highest bid on the previous ( original ) listing which ended. Of course original seller must be the seller on this buy it now only listing.
Good luck |
