I'm a comeback player using Bach 180/72* ML w/ Marcincowitz Shew 10.3.
Chops are coming back a bit and I'm not digging the bach. Feels big, spread-out and slow. I'm looking for a brighter, more focused sound, easier blow and faster response. My performance demands include lead work in progressive church services, jazz-rock and occasional big band. I need a horn that projects and cuts w/o totally wasting me!
Any succes stories / horn recommendations? Anybody know of a comparison chart for horns (like those big mpc charts)? Recommendations for horns NOT to consider? _________________ www.austintrumpetco.com |

You might want to look at a Schilke or a vintage LA-era Benge or Kanstul Chicago series, but to be honest, the 72* has long been a popular model for lead trumpet playing. _________________ Dave M.

I know a lot of lead players that swear by their the 43 or 43* models, to stay in the Bach side. I also think a Schilke or LA Benge is a good choice. _________________ -Tim Gill

I personally like Schilkes. I had a burbank benge that was great also. I played a Kanstul Chicago once and really liked it, including a recording made with it, but didn't get a chance to do any ensemble playing with it. _________________ Best Regards, Play Well!! |
